On Saturday, April 13th, Johnson College Prep hosted their third annual Women’s Empowerment Brunch. This year there were over 120 female students that participated as well as 23 professional women. Each year this event connects young women with women with professions in various industries and aims to inspire and encourage students while helping them build their self-esteem and professional networks.

For the past few years Ms. Constance Jones, Noble Network’s CEO has been sponsoring proms for young women at Johnson College Prep  who were nominated by staff members based on them being outstanding students. This year Ms. Jones  was able to attend  and announced that this year she would be sponsoring Samantha Silverman a Johnson College Prep senior for prom.

“We met some successful black women, got to eat with our friends and talk about where we want to go in life. I enjoyed the brunch very much. I got to learn some things that will help me out very much in college and how to set myself up to me successful,” explained Johnson College Prep senior, Jasmine Dean.

During lunch there were a list of topics that students and the professionals discussed to help facilitate important conversations. There were also several breakout sessions that the students participated in one that discussed self empowerment, professional dress, how to do hair and makeup and turning crisis into situations of success.

“The brunch was amazing! What I liked most about the brunch it was very motivational. There was a doctor she was very motivational and I loved all of it. She told us to ‘always stay focused it’s always within you so don’t ever think that you have to wait until college you can start now you can start today,” explained Brina Lee, a senior at Johnson College Prep.

“The mentors in our breakout sessions taught us ways that we can overcome challenges that we may have with our parents, especially our mothers because they have gone through the same thing,” explained Johnson College Prep junior, Mikayla Armour.”
