About – Charina Herrera
Hello everyone! My name is Charina and I'm originally from Providence, Rhode Island. I'm the eldest daughter of two Dominican immigrants who put their lives aside to give me and my siblings a future. I love to study history, food, and culture and graduated undergrad in Africana Studies. Those experiences solidified my love for critical thought, history and education, and I'm now on my third year of my PhD journey in Black Studies! My favorite trip would be getting the chance to return back home to the Dominican Republic, it's been 17 years!. I work at UICCP because I truly believe in the power of education and that students are our future. For SY22-23, my goal is help students further develop their love of learning.
