Q: What is your favorite thing about Chicago/your campus neighborhood?

A: I love how multicultural Chicago is, both within neighborhoods and across the city. There’s virtually always a smorgasbord of great things to do which I find enriching and fulfilling. I also love food so exploring restaurants—from tamale stands to hole-in-the-walls to fine dining—never gets old for me.

Q: What is the best deep dish pizza place in the city?

A: Bartoli’s or Lou’s or Pequod’s… I’m not super particular but admittedly deep dish is never my top choice. Piece Pizza has always been my go-to pizza spot.

Q: If you weren’t a principal, what would you be doing instead?

A: If I had to do something else and money was no object, I’d pour myself into writing and see where that took me. I’ve always been a voracious reader and am drawn to storytelling and the power of words to shape our thinking for the better.

INTERIM PRINCIPAL CAROLINE RYDEN | PRITZKER COLLEGE PREP

After graduating from Fairfield University, Caroline Ryden began her educational career at Pritzker College Prep through an AmeriCorps program in 2006. Since then, she has served as a teacher, college counselor, dean, and assistant principal and is very excited to be interim principal of Pritzker.

She is always looking for opportunities to grow as an educator and leader and has attended KIPP School Leadership Program and completed Noble’s Principal Fellowship. She is passionate about creating opportunities for all students to be exposed to college and careers during high school and inspired by the dedicated educators and hardworking students in the Pritzker community. She looks forward to seeing more students graduate from Pritkzer and ultimately graduate from college.

Q: What is your favorite thing about Chicago/your campus neighborhood?

A: My favorite this about Chicago is there is always something new to do or food to try! I love walking to the 606 from Pritzker and getting off at different places to try new coffee shops or restaurants.

Q: What is the best deep dish pizza place in the city?

A: Art of Pizza is my favorite deep dish pizza place in Chicago because I can walk to it and they have the best sauce!

Q: If you weren’t a principal, what would you be doing instead?

A: If I was not the principal at Pritzker, I would want to be running a business with my two sisters. We have always dreamed of opening a company together and, hopefully someday, we will be able to follow that dream!

PRINCIPAL TIERIONNA PINKSTON | THE NOBLE ACADEMY

Professional photo of Pinkston, a black woman with twists and curls in her hair. She is wearing a green top and smiling.

Tierionna Pinkston is a mother, wife, and long-time educator, who serves young people and families as principal of The Noble Academy. She has served students and families in Austin, Gary, Indiana, West Town, Englewood, and North Lawndale. Originally from Louisville, Kentucky, she has spent more than a decade teaching, learning, & leading in order to deliver exceptional outcomes for students who are often pushed to the margins. She believes deeply that the commitment to lead well in our schools is a radical pursuit of justice.

Prior to becoming principal, she served as the manager of instructional leadership for Noble Schools, where she coached and built strategy with instructional leaders and led professional development for teachers, schools, and teams. Tierionna earned her Bachelor of Science in Adolescent English Education from Miami University of Ohio and her MEd in Curriculum Studies from DePaul. She is a 2011 Chicago Corps member, a 2016 Stanford Hollyhock Fellow, a 2022 Chicago Surge Fellow, and a 2024 fellow of The Leadership Collaborative.

Q: What is your favorite thing about Chicago/your campus neighborhood?

A: My campus neighborhood was originally the community of Cabrini Green. Even though Cabrini has been erased over time, my favorite thing is learning about the history of that community and unpacking the beauty and complexity of this historical Chicago neighborhood.

Q: What is the best deep dish pizza place in the city?

A: I mean, I only order deep dish when I have family in town. We usually get Giordano’s. But I personally rarely eat pizza because I am lactose intolerant.

Q: If you weren’t a principal, what would you be doing instead?

A: I would be an executive coach if I weren’t a principal. I would do that while pursuing my doctorate. I would do pick up and drop off every day for my preschooler and make sure to teach an Ethnic Studies class once or twice a week.
