About – Jarrell Turner
Jarrell Turner is a lifelong Chicago resident called into the realm of education. He is a first generation high school graduate of Chicago public school George Henry Corliss. He is a first generation college graduate from Governor State University with a major in Interdisciplinary Studies and a focus in sociology and community development. Currently, he’s in pursuit of a masters in special education as a member of TFA (Teach for America) where he is a constant advocate for equity, justice, and diversity. Jarrell currently works as a learning specialist at Butler College Prep in the same Roseland community that poured into him. As a Butler Teacher of the Year recipient, he has seen tremendous growth with his students amid his collaborations with CPS ODLSS staff to coordinate community based instruction field trips. Through this partnership, he’s taken cohorts of Diverse Learners to the Secretary of State to obtain State IDs, explored China Town to experience dining etiquette, shopped at grocery stores to manage spending and budgeting, and various other life skills-based experiences.
