Shatara McDonald

Shatara McDonald is a passionate educator and emerging instructional leader committed to educational equity and student success. A 2020 graduate of Chicago State University with a B.A. in Psychology and a minor in African-American Studies. Her global perspective is enriched by her study abroad experience in Tanzania, Africa where she studied Kiswahili and explored themes of international security and intelligence.  Shatara is a 2025 Golden Apple Accelerator and a licensed Learning Behavior Specialist (LBS-1), known for her culturally responsive teaching, restorative practices, and data-driven instruction. At Johnson College Prep, she fosters inclusive classrooms, social-emotional growth, and equity-centered leadership for her 9th grade Biology students as well as across the school community.  Outside of the classroom Shatara is a proud mother of two and a dedicated member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., the Psi Chi Honor Society, and a charter member of the National Council of Negro Women; as well as a foodie and music enthusiast!
