About – Lisette Hernandez
Lisette Hernandez is the Dean of Instruction of English and English Language Learners (ELL) at ITW David Speer Academy. In this role, Lisette coaches a team of 10 teachers to support the learning and development of writing, reading, and grammar acquisition in their classroom. Additionally, Lisette has created Speer’s first ever ELL Academic Track that focuses on targeted English and reading support in 9th and 10th grade with a gradual release in 11th and 12th grade for the second largest population of ELL students in the Noble community. At Speer, Lisette also leads a women empowerment group for students that represent as female in partnership with ITW Women’s Network and the Field Museum Women’s Board in addition to co-leading the PRIDE Committee, a staff committee focused on antiracist initiatives and professional development at Speer. Lisette is a Chicago native, Noble Alumni, and a Golden Apple Scholar. She received her bachelors at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and masters at DePaul University. Lisette has wanted to be a teacher since she was 13 years old and completed 5 years of teaching at Speer before transitioning into administration. Lisette is a fierce advocate for women’s rights, students, and equity.
