SCHOOL HISTORY

Hansberry College Prep doors opened in August 2012 as Noble Auburn Gresham College Prep- the name of the community in which our school resides. In July 2013, after much consideration the campus changed its name to Hansberry College Prep in honor of the late Lorraine Hansberry, the well-known African American writer and playwright who grew up on Chicago’s South side. The goal then and now, was to provide quality education in Auburn Gresham. In 2014, HCP was officially authorized as an IB World school, becoming the first public charter in the state of Illinois recognized as such.

MISSION

At Hansberry College Prep, we believe our students are unstoppable, so we prepare them through a rigorous, internationally-minded, college preparatory curricula that enables them to graduate from our nation’s top-ranked colleges, strengthen the communities from which they come, and be agents of change in this world.
